Every so often I forget.
I forget why we as writer’s write.
Some have a story buried deep within that needs to be told for emotional and healing reasons.
Some have a strong desire to entertain.
Some write because the voices in their heads become overwhelming if they don’t get them out. (No, we’re not serial killers….well, hmm…maybe some could be? Not my genre/area.)
Some write because hey, it must be easy and I have something to say.
I’m sure there are a million and one more reasons out there that surpass my desire to write. I write because it is my outlet, my solace, my therapy, my sharing, my entertainment. I may not like to talk to others about what’s happened in my life, or what’s going on in my brain, but through my writing, it makes it’s way onto the page/screen. Every so often, a story just shows up. Man, can the characters get demanding.
Via Twitter and FaceBook, I’ve been meeting a lot of new writers, those struggling with their first book. I’ve been meeting published authors, those writing their 10th book. I’ve met those going the Indy route, those who’ve done mainstream publishing and who are moving to epublishing on their own. It is a great time to be involved and actively engaged in the community. Technology has only increased our reach.
So, I guess my question tonight, as we move into the weekend….what draws you to writing? Why do it? Are you going to do the mainstream route…find an agent, find a publisher…or go the indy route and do it yourself. Are you constantly learning and honing your craft?
