Patiently Waiting. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. This self publishing process not an easy one.
I’m spending the evening patiently waiting for Amazon DTP to move my novel from the “Publishing” state to “Live” state. It’s rather nerve wracking. Especially since they just sent me a notice that they were moving it from publishing back to draft because of an error, which I’d fixed this am. I’m hoping it’s just a hiccup in the system since even though I’m logged in, it’s still in a publishing state. I feel like pulling my hair out.
I suppose, when you do it yourself, you get to handle the nerves yourself as well!
Although, truth be told, I can’t say I did this all myself. I didn’t.
I’ve had editors throughout the process.
I’ve had beta readers. A writer’s group. An awesome cover designer. Some great teachers along the way.
A very supportive family, friends, other writer’s and authors.
I point this all out because self publishing is not actually a solo process. Yes, it’s allowed me to be in control of my book every step of the way (thus the nerves while I wait for Amazon to switch it over to Live status), but you don’t accomplish anything in a vaccum. This book has been years in the making. It’s gone through many iterations, many changes, some drastic shifts in focus. Plus, the learning process of how to actually get the book setup for digital publishing (thank you Scrivener!), it’s gotten easier with technology.
So please don’t think that it’s easy. It’s a process. And you may never publish that ‘first’ book, because I promise you, this isn’t my first. My first needs so much more work than this one did. And this one? It took quite a while.
I can only hope as I move forward, it gets easier on me. (But I can’t promise my nerves will ever go away!)
Namaste!
