It’s that time of year again. As the trick or treaters wind down, it’s always my cue to get myself situated for 12:01am so that the writing frenzy can begin. (Although I get pretty side tracked with the cute 3 year olds and all their fuzzy costumes.)
We’ve got 30 days to get 50,000 words.
The only time I haven’t achieved the goal was the first year I tried. Too many issue in 2004. And then, 2005 I did it with a broken shoulder and finished in about 2.5 weeks. I was ecstatic and realized, no more excuses. If I could get the Goddess of Fire’s novel done that way, I can get anyone’s story written.
What’s on tap this year?
Well, I have several things to choose from, so it’s a good thing I have about 2.5 hours to figure out which story I’m focusing on.
Nick and I have been working on Shia & Ryan’s story, which is turning out to be more of a crime novel/mystery genre than romance. It’s a different genre for me, although I’ve still managed to keep the paranormal in it – think JD Robb. It’s definitely a fun endeavor, but I’m not sure how we track word count for that since we’re both writing and editing each other as we go. I’ve got the Scrivener Beta setup for the Nano templates on both the iMac and the MacBook, so it won’t matter where I’m writing from, I can always get to my shared files space.
I usually use Scrivener anyway, but Nick works on a PC, so we’ve been using Dropbox to share the Word Doc for the one project. Now that Scrivener is out for the PC too, I’m not sure whether Nick will want to try using it or just stick with Word.
Another story is calling to me as well, my Goddess of Wind is up for her turn and my writing buddies JT & Etate have been a huge help in getting a few details outlined so I at least know how to confine her. It gets a little tricky by the 4th book. I mean really, how many ways can you trap a goddess?
I’d best get to figuring out what I’m working on!
To those joining me in this project, my username on the Nano site is staciakelly, add me as a writing buddy.
AND, if you’d like to join our online writing sprints, make sure you let me know your user name for your instant messenger of choice. We try to get together once a day, if not more, and sprint for 15 minutes. We don’t share what we wrote, just our word count. We motivate each other to get to our daily word count goal!
