Feng Shui, Creativity & Snow Storms Oh My

Peaceful Snowpocolypse for the Kelly Family

While mother nature is beautiful in her blanketing of the area with pristine whiteness (at least until the plowing takes over), after round three of this I can safely say that

  1. we’re quite capable of surviving, digging out and driving now and
  2. we’re definitely over her sharing of it all. (And if I hear one word of fussing this summer about not having enough water, I may have to hurt someone.)

I figured I’d share a quick video of the sheer quiet of our yard during that last storm and sorry to my neighbor, I got his house in the picture….beautiful house. Sorry, Dave! Turn up your volume to hear the windchimes and the sound of snow landing on more snow.

So, what did WE decided to do in the evening hours last night?

Feng Shui the office. Yes, Yes, you heard me right. Nick decided that my desire from a few weeks ago to rearrange the office for better energy flow would be best taken care of last night. My desk was in the knowledge/self help sector, which just explains SO much, doesn’t it? Pup’s was in family and creativity. We switched. And I think my family all breathed a collective sigh of relief at that one. (I’m the degree collector ;) ) How did it all work out?

  1. Travel Corner – placed some fun travel items like my Eiffel Tower sculpture, a bottle of sand from Bermuda, a French book, our stamps and postage meter and the TV.
  2. Career/LifePath – need something for to go over the double wide entry – although, it does feel like there’s more movement since the entry is now completely open.
  3. Knowledge/Self Help – Pup’s Desk.
  4. Health/Family/Community – bookcase of Health & Wellness Books plus some family pictures and the phone and some H&W knickknacks.
  5. Wealth/Abundance/Prosperity – another bookcase of Self Help and Finance books.
  6. Fame/Reputation – Nick’s desk remains. We figured it was doing just fine there.
  7. My desk now takes over 2 sectors 1) Relationships/Love/Marriage and 2) Creativity/Children/Projects
  8. He & I meet in the middle of the room creating a nice balance.

And if any of that makes zero sense to you? There’s a great map here. Turn the map so the Career block side is the point of entry. Do I believe in Feng Shui and the power it can help to impart? Well, the jury is still out. But I do know that my subconscious is picking up the visual clues now every time I look around the room. And really, isn’t that the point? Reinforcement of goals? What do you think of the art of arranging a room to help your creativity?

A part of me wishes I was home for this, and another part of me is glad I didn’t have to deal with it. I hope your power wasn’t out for too long.

For the Feng Shui, I think you hit on the importance of it. That it reinforces all of those goals/qualities. I have never looked into it myself, so I was surprised at the aspects of life it picked, but they do seem to cover everything. And if it turns out that Feng Shui has no power other than of reminding you, well you now have a rearranged office right?

  2. 30 hours give or take…we’d have been fine except we ran out of firewood LOL. So, we trekked to meet Dale and headed to the in laws. Worked out just fine.

I think, if for nothing else, it’s going to be a great subconscious kick :)

  3. Love your video and can’t wait to hear what you think about the Feng Shui in your office. I think it’s important for your surroundings to be a reflection of your soul and personality, and to be surrounded by people, pets, and objects you love. The physical, spiritual, and emotional realms are deeply intertwined. ;-)

  4. Deb, just taking your lead with your vlogs on your site (http://debralschubert.blogspot.com/) although I don’t have your presence on camera yet…it’ll take me a while to move in FRONT of it :D

And I agree, so it was a nice endeavor to move items into groups where I would be reminded of what they mean, rather than have them scattered about without thought. It will all imprint :)

  5. Every ounce of effort was worth it. I feel energized, right with Dr. Strand’s visit on the horizon tomorrow night. Only gripe is that we didn’t put the sand from the beach where I proposed to you, and where we were married, in that sacred travel corner.

Hmmm….I notice that’s been rectified. Strange how the universe works!

    Love you,
    nK

  6. Brat…it’s there now and staying LOL…I have control over 1/3 the office space..ok, maybe more….but we are rocking and rolling!

    NOW, to WRITE!

  7. Sounds like you’ve got the hang of it, and your desk is in exactly the right place for the matriarch of the family. :)

Beautiful snow scene/audio. I could put those windchimes on a loop and listen all day.

I’d recommend greenery just above the arch in the double doorway, or perhaps some of those inspirational Wall words: Live, Love, Learn? Sounds perfect for your office.

I want to get some that say “Ask, Believing, and Ye Shall Receive” for above my desk.

Also, if you mentioned Feng Shui to me (which i think you did) check out http://www.kenlauher.com. He’s amazing. (He’s a client and a friend, but I can still say that, right?) ;)

  8. Oooh, great link, Dawn! Thank you for sharing. I like the idea of putting the words up there, especially since we’re a word oriented family LOL.

Is it odd that we don’t have anything in the corner that should be wisdom??? :P

I do like how our office is set up. I like having my desk facing the window and our corner window has a tree where I’m always watching the birds flit around. It’s a nice break from the computer monitor every now and then. :)

  10. You amaze me at all the things you do in a given week! I never know how you keep up with all of it…oh, maybe it is that beautiful office and house of yours! I might be able to get a little more done if I wasn’t so close to Route 1 and all the traffic! Hope to see you soon, and not just hear from you!!!

  11. JT – Hmmm, I’ll have to find something fun for you in that corner ;) My desk is now beside the window, so I can look out over the field and trees rather than directly at the neighbors house. Feels less intrusive that way, plus I’m in the creativity space!

Corry, back at you. I have a hard time keeping up with all that YOU do :) Hopefully, you have a great sound system that helps you block out any of the noise that filters in from Rte. 1? I know when I lived near a busy road, I had to have more music/TV on to block it out. Here, I love the windchimes out front and can’t wait for warmer weather to open the windows up!
