I can’t resist….she’s demanding I share. This is part of one of the FIRST nanowrimo books I wrote. I don’t often share….but here’s a hint into the thought processes of Briana Sabre – mutant casino bar owner. I think Zach has his hands full

Sabre stopped pacing the length of the holding cell an hour ago when she realized Zach wasn’t coming back and instead, hoped to break her by making her wait. She’d moved onto rearranging the room as much as she was able to, uncaring if someone yelled at her. When she tired of that, she jumped up on the interrogation table she’d moved close to the back wall and crossed her legs in a lotus position facing the two-way mirror.
She knew he was watching her. She could feel his eyes.
Rather than working herself up into another snit, she settled herself down to meditate, using the time to practice focusing on her breathing. She didn’t like the walls in the place. Liked it even less that the door was locked, caging her in. She was surprised Jared’s phone calls hadn’t gotten her immediately ejected from the place. She took the time given to her and mentally reviewed all the details she tried to catalog as Zach hustled her across the prescient earlier and into the holding cell. She replayed in her mind’s eye where every desk and chair sat. She noted where the surveillance cameras hid as well as the air ducts. Her sensitive ears had picked up on the shocked murmurings crossing the building as she’d strode, head held high, through one of the last places she’d ever thought she’d be. She wondered at the shock on a few faces, but dismissed it.
Arrested. And it wasn’t even for a good reason. Well, not that saving Shye wasn’t a good reason, but, to be arrested for obstruction of justice? It was laughable. Her mother would have snickered at her, after leaving her in the holding cell overnight, if only to make a point.
She slit her eyes, gazing at the two-way mirror. She pinpointed with her heightened senses where Zach stood behind the glass. For a brief moment, she wondered which one of them could out wait the other. If she had to, she would sit here for days. On second thought, she’d find a way to break out in the middle of the night. She had things to do rather than sitting. She had a limited time to track a mad man before Shye returned to the planet. For now, she closed her eyes again.
She’d wait. For awhile.

I’m toying with the idea of offering this one up for free….mostly because I can.
Psst – my inspirations for this one….
