So, I started back to work FT today, so yes, the posts will be all over the place. I apologize. I just refuse to let the freelance economy break the household. I can balance writing and a job. I’ve done it before. I can get a book done in odd hours in two weeks, hell, I did 50K with a broken shoulder. Just you watch. But right now? I’m building back story..the plot, the scenes, so when I do sit down to write, it all just flows. (And no, we’re not talking edits….)
This am, I had an hour and fifteen minute commute to the office (I’d have done the same on the way home if I hadn’t been worried about getting to pup on time before the after school care shut down at 6:30….I was giving grief to momma nature about the rain and to stupid people about stupid stunts on the road. Can we tell my priorities? Seriously.). I was far more stressed about getting to pup on time than getting to a teleconference on time. Hmmm, adults can adjust, kids don’t get time.
Rather than listen to an audio book (this morning), I asked my main characters to allow themselves to show me who they were and what they wanted to say for the first chapter of a new book/new series. While the Goddesses are yelling at me to finish their series, I have a standalone that’s been struggling to come to the forefront. Man the voices when you’re a writer…seriously. The goddesses have been fighting with me….well hello, they’re goddesses. Duh.
And man, did it. Ryan and Zenshi (Shia) were pretty darn vocal during the commute (Rae, you can’t give me grief about the names LOL…totally unrelated until AFTER I thought of them…~silly grins~). I’ve got two alphas vying for power but each coming from their own realm. He’s not ready to believe in her realm, yet she’s willing to show him, when she never has been before – she likes the gold in his hair, the compassion in his eyes, his aura. He’s intrigued even though he thinks she’s killing people, assassin. Her full name means Tender Buddhist Warrior without Home – it’ll be an interesting reveal. I’ve been a long time in thinking about her, almost a year. And, I think it was Dierdre Knight who said she wanted to see this kind of heroine…thus my subconscious went to work. Ryan…well hell, he just showed up today. And, wow, did he show up. Shh, don’t tell Nico.
It’s amazing how long a story brews and then finally shows up…I think, over the next few weeks, with all that I’ve learned in the last few months…these two are going to blow the book up…and set you on fire. She’s not looking for love, she has a purpose, a goal. And yet, Ryan thinks she’s suspect.
I’ve been learning from some very experienced authors…I’ve been taking online classes…I have a MA in Writing & Editing… you would THINK I’d have this down.
And by the end of this year, I will.
Ryan and Shia will make it. They’re going to burn up the page. They’re going to make you feel every step of the way. I’ve got the first two chapters mapped out in my head. Thank you William Johnson, who we had a lovely dinner/chat with this past week. I get seeing the story as a screenplay. And this one, will be so….and you will feel it.
Do you want excerpts as I’m writing?
