I finished reading a book tonight. I know, I should be editing...I should be writing, hell, I should be doing a LOT of things :) But tonight...I needed to keep reading. The highlights...but, get the book if you want a true explanation: - Be clear, people will regard you as an expert.
- Tell stories, but make it about THEM
- Brevity is power
- Cut every document in half.
- Read everything you write…out loud.
- Listening well makes you captivating.
- You are who you appear to be.
- Engage in active listening – listen in pictures
- Put your entire body into your presentation
- Observe
- Great presentations inspire – reach us through the heart & soul
- Don’t impress them, MOVE them
- Be aware of how you are measured and the impression you create
- Silence speaks
- Invest, travel the extra mile, pay the extra dollar
- Talk to the one, not the many
- Keep it short
- Look them in the eye
- Bring in the back of the room first
- If you’re going to make a joke, make it at YOUR expense
- Reach the head, through the heart
- Make them comfortable
- Reply quickly, do every thing FAST
- Help them or know someone else who CAN
- Use the magic words, know the person’s name…KNOW their children’s names
- Listen as if they are the only one in the world
- Always be 5 minutes early, this indicates the importance of the event
- Always be prepared - hell, have a pen!
- Be consistent – in hours, habits and behaviors
- Believe in yourself and others will too
- Follow up within a DAY
- Send hand written Thank You notes
- Look for one memorable thing
- Promise PM, Deliver AM – always deliver a half day early!
- Get strangers passionate about who you are and what you do
- Don’t forget to ask…find out what THEY want to do, what they LIKE
- Be vivid
- Go where you don’t want to go…GROW
